FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FRISCO, TEXAS – MAY 15, 2002 – A new web site, www.texassculpturegarden.org, has been created to provide information and resources related to the Texas Sculpture Garden in Frisco, TX. This web site uniquely showcases the talent of the 38 Texas artists whose works are featured in the garden. Designed to educate, inspire and even facilitate connections with the artists themselves, this comprehensive web site takes the experience of the Texas Sculpture Garden to a whole new level.

Officially opened to the public in September 2001, the Texas Sculpture Garden is recognized as the largest private collection of contemporary Texas sculpture ever assembled and made available to the public. In addition to providing helpful visitor information, the Texas Sculpture Garden website includes extensive information about the individual artists and their work. Web site visitors can access bios, view photo samples of additional works, and read personal statements and commentary from the artists. The site also features other interesting resources including a comprehensive links page, press section and messages from the benefactor and curator.

Several of Texas’ most prominent sculptors are featured in the Texas Sculpture Garden and on the web site. Included in this prestigious list are James Surls, Frances Bagley, Jerry Daniel, Damian Priour, Eliseo Garcia, Isaac Smith, Sherry Owens, Art Shirer and Polly Gessell.

Benefactor, Craig Hall and curator Patricia Meadows, envisioned creating a space that would demonstrate and celebrate the diversity and excellence of art being made in Texas. “We want people to really enjoy this diverse collection,” said Patricia Meadows. “It is my hope that visitors will respect and treasure each piece as a legacy for future generations.”

“Art is supposed to touch your soul,” said Craig Hall, benefactor of the Texas Sculpture Garden. “In some cases it may be provocative, but in all cases it should be moving.”

Soon even more people will know of the Texas Sculpture Garden and its artists when the documentary Dances on the Prairie premieres at the Dallas Video Festival on May 18th. The film documents the development of the garden, from the unique vision that inspired it to its opening celebration. Many of the talented artists are featured in the film, discussing the influences on their work, insights into the creative process and what it means to be a “Texas Artist.” More information about Dances on the Prairie can also be found on the Texas Sculpture Garden web site.
