FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dallas, TX – May 7, 2002 – DANCES ON THE PRAIRIE, a half hour documentary by filmmaker Brijetta Hall, explores the creation of the “Texas Sculpture Garden,” one of the largest permanent collections of work by Texas sculpture artists ever assembled and opened for free to the public. The film will premiere at the Dallas Video Festival on Saturday, May 18, 2002 at 2:45pm at the Kalita Humphreys Theater.

DANCES ON THE PRAIRIE documents the development of the “Texas Sculpture Garden” over a period of two years from the unique vision that inspired it to the opening celebration. The film features a group of diverse and talented artists who discuss the influences on their work, provide insight into the creative process, and ponder what it means to be a “Texas Artist.” The documentary employs the garden to explore the participative nature of art, the vital role that art plays in the lives of both artists and the audience, and the direct impact art can have on a community.

Several of Texas’ most prominent sculptors are featured in DANCES ON THE PRAIRIE including James Surls, Frances Bagley, Jerry Daniel, Damian Priour, Eliseo Garcia, Isaac Smith, Sherry Owens, Art Shirer, and Polly Gessell among others.
