| From the artist: "The idea of looking at my life as blocks of time, is like looking at blocks of time as numbers. Each number has a lifetime of its own, and I give acknowledgement to each. The sculptureThree and Three and Seven Flower is about the numbers, in as much as I give intellectual nod to formal arrangement. Historically we hold 'three' in a certain reverance. One, two, three, the spin begins its long stretch millions of light years across. Three and Three, Again and Again. Over and Over, repeated in patterns of organic growth. Twos, fours, and moustache growers build in quarter angles and they are square. Three, five, seven, nine and eleven. A cardinal number. Odd man growing into infinity, swimming in forever, out in the enormity of its molecular center. The sculpture is about center. Seven Flowers with three and three as their centers. Home lights for the bee going on in on its targeted prize. High hum in the outward lift of the elliptical dance. Two fixed points predict the third, the spin begins again and again. Art, Science, and Philosophy. We better mark our path well if we are to make it in the garden." James Surls
