Jim Bowman

Jim Bowman lives and works in Dallas, Texas. He received a B.F.A. from Kansas City Art Institute in Kansas City, MO, and a M.F.A. from California college of Arts and Crafts, Oakland, CA.

He has been invited to exhibit his work in Texas, nationally, and the prestigious International Exhibition of Glass in Kanazawa, Japan. As owner of Bowman Glass Studio, and also formerly Hickory Street Hot Glass Studio, Mr. Bowman has been a teacher and mentor to glass artists throughout the country. His work is in many private and corporate collections including the Belo Corporation, the Catholic Foundation, Dal-Tile, and U. S. Bank and Trust in Dallas.

Recent commissioned projects include Hall Office Park, Neiman Marcus, and Dallas Area Rapid Transit. His work includes public art, architectural glass, mixed media sculpture and hand-blown glass. His current work is primarily concerned with creating sculptural installations for public spaces.

From the artist:

"This piece began as a response to the architectural site, using blown glass, my primary medium at this point in my career. It consists of about 100 lance-like components installed vertically, to create a band of color 24 feet long and 5 feet high in the windows of the rotunda entryway. The predominate color is blue, with red/orange components occuring randomly. The color effect I envision is a field of springtime bluebonnets with a sprinkling of Indian paintbrush."
